Chinese New Year – Bringing cheer to the less fortunate

Smart Reader® Worldwide recently opened its door by organising its Chinese New Year celebration for the less fortunate. The “Ride your way to success” festive celebration was held on 12th February 2014 at Wisma Smart Reader® I.

Approximately 120 orphans along with their caretakers from Siddharthan Care Centre, PertubuhanKebajikanKanak-Kanak Istimewa Klang, PersatuanKebajikanKanak-Kanak Mata Air Kehidupan, Bethesda Home and House of Joy attended the event.

Similar to other Chinese New Year celebrations, the event began with lively lion and dragon dance performances, followed by a Wushu martial art performance.

The fun-loving children of Smart Reader Kids® (Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur), Smart Reader Kids® (Taman Bidara, Batu Caves, Selangor), and Smart Reader Kids® (Batu 3, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur) entertained guests with a variety of cultural performances that ranged from Malay, Chinese and Indian dance performances to a short sketch on the origin of the Chinese New Year celebration.

Adorned in their traditional costumes, staff from Smart Reader® Worldwide also came together and performed a medley of Chinese New Year songs for the guests.

Their performance was followed by special performances that featured the students of SRI® College. Guests were treated to an acoustic performance, a demonstration on the fine art of Chinese calligraphy and a contemporary dance number.

Other highlights of the event included a special appearance of Choi San Ye, known to many as the God of Prosperity, and the mascots of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Smart and Jack. Throughout the event, children received Vico drinks sponsored by Maestro Swiss Trading Sdn Bhd.

All children received ang pow from Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Dr Richard Ong, Group Executive Director, Datin Sri Dato’ Dr KH Wang and Executive Director, Kevan Ong.

In addition to the angpows, the children received Chinese New Year goodies from Smart Reader® Worldwide and food sponsored by KyoChon Malaysia, Freemori Malaysia and Sushi King. They also received vouchers from Auntie Anne’s, Bread Delicious and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

The spokesperson for Freemori Malaysia shared, “In line with our company’s vision and mission, we aim to share our culture and educate the kids in a fun way. It has been a great pleasure for us to be a part of this event. ”

Mr Terry Goh, the Managing Director of Double Fry SdnBhd, master franchisor for KyoChon in Malaysia, said, “As a small but growing company, we aspire to engage in impactful social causes. By participating in Smart Reader Worldwide’s CSR programme, we have significantly increased the impact of our sponsorship. We hope that future collaborations will continue to yield greater impact and encourage more companies to join the movement to make this world a better place for all.” KyoChon Malaysia sponsored lunch boxes for the children.

As a company that places great emphasis in providing quality early childhood education programmes to the children of the nation, Smart Reader® Worldwide holds on to the belief in giving back to the community at all times. Over the last decade, Smart Reader® Worldwide has been serving the needs of less fortunate children throughout the country via its CSR initiatives.

The Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Kevan Ong said, “As we work towards creating a better tomorrow for our future world leaders, we must not forget the ones who hardly have the opportunity to experience the festive occasions with their loved ones. By holding CSR events such as today’s festive celebration, I am glad that we are able to bring a little excitement to the lives of these children.”
