The first-ever Smart Mandarin™ Storytelling Competition was held recently on 23 July at Wisma Smart Reader® I to promote the use of Mandarin as a medium of communication and self-expression.During the preliminaries held in Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur, more than 100 children aged five to six years old from Smart Reader Kids® centres came together to showcase their glowing command of the Mandarin language. The preliminaries also saw the participation of several non-Chinese participants, who performed equally as good as their Chinese counterparts.

Eventually, 23 kids made it to the final round to compete for the main prize worth RM1000 and a trophy. It was a stiff competition as the kids exuded so much flamboyance in their presentations. Finally, five-year-old How Yen Ling from Smart Reader Kids® (Taman Nusa Idaman I, Nusajaya, Johor) walked away as the champion. The first runner-up, five-year-old Lee Xin Yue from Smart Reader Kids®(Taman Nusa Idaman 2, Nusajaya, Johor) and second runner-up, six-year-old Lee Ching Qing from Smart Reader Kids® (Phase 1, Setia Tropika, Johor Bahru) each walked away with a trophy and cash prize worth RM800 and RM500 respectively.
