SMART READER® WORLDWIDE FETES DEEPAVALI

The Festival of Lights celebration took place at Wisma Smart Reader® I on 21 November 2013. Going with the theme ‘Light Up Your Life’, Smart Reader® Worldwide hosted Agathians Shelter, Persatuan Kebajikan Rumah Rita, Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, Rumah Nur Kasih Bestari and Sunbeams Home, where approximately 100 children, age below 15 years old attended the event with their caretakers. At the start of the event, the children were kept entertained by a professional children’s entertainer known to many as ‘Awang de Clown’. Using his distinctive talents to break the ice and bring joy and laughter to the children, he created a variety of impressive balloon sculptures for them.

The event was followed by a presentation of a mock cheque amounting to RM5000 to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Hajjah Shamsiah Bt Hj A. Kadir, the Director of Operation of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society received the cheque from Datin Sri Dato’ Dr K H Wang, the Group Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide and Mdm Shamina, the President of Association of Early Childhood Providers Malaysia (APECP).

The event continued with delightful performances by the talented children of Smart Reader Kids®. Beginning with a couple of upbeat dance numbers are the children from Smart Reader Kids® Desa Sri Hartamas. They performed to the hit tunes from major Tamil and Hindi blockbusters namely, the ‘Singham dance’ from Singam 2 and the ‘Lungi dance’ from Chennai Express.

Their high-energy performance was followed by the ‘Waka Waka dance’ performance by the children of Smart Reader Kids® Metro Prima. Taking a spin from the original, their performance was infused with Bollywood elements.

Equally inspired by the Bollywood elements, the children of Smart Reader Kids® Taman Bidara followed suit with their ‘Discowale Khisko’ dance performance. The song is taken from the 2009 Hindi movie, Dil Bole Hadippa!.

As a tribute to the children, Allegrezza, the in-house band of Smart Reader® Worldwide, performed a Smart Reader Kids® original song entitled ‘Children of the World’, taken from the One Child One Hope CD.

The One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme gives less fortunate children the opportunity to experience quality early childhood education at any Smart Reader Kids® centres nationwide. The children receive full sponsorship on school fees, uniforms, books and learning materials. Since its establishment, 300 children have enjoyed equal privileges and benefits as other children. The One Child One Hope CD that comes with the book of quotes entitled ‘Let’s Celebrate Life’ can be bought at Smart Reader® Worldwide for RM50 and the proceeds will go towards the charitable fund.

The Allegrezza band ended their performance on a high note with Whitney Houston’s ‘Greatest Love of All’.

Joining in the festivity to bring further joy and happiness were the administrative staff of Smart Reader® Worldwide. Decked in their festive suits, they walked down the runway to the beats of contemporary Bollywood tunes.

In keeping with traditions, the management of Smart Reader® Worldwide – Group Executive Director, Datin Sri Dato’ Dr KH Wang and Corporate Manager, Kevan Ong gave Deepavali packets and goody bags to the children.

Their goody bags consisted of popular and traditional Indian treats such as barfi, an Indian confectionery that is prepared using concentrated milk and sugar, as well as murukku, a savory snack that has been deep fried in oil.

Other items included in the bags were cookies sponsored by Freemori, chocolates, fruit juices and Smart Reader® Worldwide’s merchandise. All children received lunch sponsored by Carl’s Jr.

One of the sponsors, the Operation Director of Carl’s Jr. Malaysia, Mr. Bob Ali shared, “Carl’s Jr. is always looking for the opportunity to give back to the community and environment. As Deepavali is also known as the ‘Festival of Lights’, we have decided to provide our warmest greetings and care for the children. We hope our little contribution can light up their day and let them feel the love from all of us.” All children received lunch sponsored by Carl’s Jr.

The Deepavali celebration is part of Smart Reader® Worldwide‘s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to organise more meaningful events and programmes that will bring joy, care and happiness to even more children.
