The launching of the all-exclusive Smart Reader Kids® Fan Club was held recently on 18 April 2013 at Wisma Smart Reader® I. The event was inaugurated by the Group Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Honorary Professor Dato’ Dr K H Wang.

Among those present were the management of Smart Reader®Worldwide, franchisees, teachers and students of Smart Reader Kids® and Smart Reader Kids++® centres, former students of Smart Reader Kids® along with members of the press.

The mascots of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Smart and Jack and mascots from SuperTots added excitement and joy to the event.

Essentially, the Smart Reader Kids® Fan Club is formed to provide the Smart Reader Kids® fraternity with an environment that promotes and fosters personal growth as well as to keep track of their wellbeing. The Fan Club also serves to inculcate friendship, bonding and good values among its members, through their participation in fund-raising, CSR activities and handling in-house events.

“The idea sprang from the Smart Reader Kids® Privilege Cards, where students of Smart Reader Kids® and Smart Reader Kids++® are accorded special privileges. Even after students have left the centres, we hope to continually cherish and nurture them as alumni through events and activities organised by the Fan Club,” revealed Dato’ in her opening speech.

For a former student of Smart Reader Kids® (USJ 9, Subang Jaya, Selangor), 18-year-old Putra Shazwan Shah Bin Nor Alam Shah fondly recalled his memories of going to old folks homes and orphanages. The experience had taught him to be imbued with compassion and respect, as well as to be thoughtful and considerate of others. Since then, he has involved himself in numerous volunteer and charity activities. He hopes to actively participate in similar activities organised by Smart Reader Kids® Fan Club. Apart from that, he also mentioned about his devoted teacher, Teacher Susan, who even after he had left the centre, still maintains contact with him, and provides him the support and encouragement to excel.

Seeing the Smart Reader Kids® children perform during the launching was certainly a nostalgic experience for 16-year-old Rubbiny Saravanan as she used to perform on stage during her preschool days at Smart Reader Kids® (Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang). Over the years, she has cultivated a love for performing and even learned the art of playing the veena, a traditional Indian musical instrument. As the Vice President of the Smart Reader Kids® Fan Club, she looks forward to attending gatherings to meet and catch up with old friends as well as participating in volunteer activities.

On the other hand, a sociable eight-year-old Harveer Singh shared his experience when he was a student of Smart Reader Kids®. Not only had he made a lot of friends then, but he clearly enjoyed his time playing and learning with his fellow classmates. He still keeps in touch with some of them.

Accompanying him was his mother, Harlinda Kaur. She added that due to the curriculum taught in Smart Reader Kids®, Harveer did not encounter any difficulties when he entered primary school. Having gone to Smart Reader Kids® since he was three years old, Harveer was able to speak in fluent Mandarin by the time he was four years old. Harveer is currently a student of SJK(C) Tun Tan Cheng Lock. His cousins, nine-year-old Rajdip Singh and eight-year-old Harleen Dev Kaur, were former students of Smart Reader Kids® as well.

The Smart Reader Kids® Fan Club membership is currently open for current and former students of Smart Reader Kids®, particularly those who attended the daily programme and between the ages of three to 17 years old and above. The membership fee for the first year is waived.

During the event, Dato’ and Corporate Manager of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Kevan Ong also presented prizes to winners of the Smart Reader® Worldwide Laugh Out Loud! Video Contest. Held between 30 September 2012 and 4 February 2013, the 30 to 90 seconds videos captured the most amusing moments of Smart Reader Kids® and Smart Reader Kids++® students. Goh Yi Ling of Smart Reader Kids® (USJ 9, Subang Jaya, Selangor), Sarah Adriana and Amier Hamzah Sulaiman of Smart Reader Kids® (Ukay Perdana, Ampang, Selangor), and Beatrice Wong Zi Qi of Smart Reader Kids® (USJ 9, Subang Jaya, Selangor) won the first, second and third prize respectively.
