As the leading early childhood education provider in Malaysia, Smart Reader® Worldwide believes that environmental awareness begins with the little ones. On 22nd April 2018, in conjunction with Earth Day, Smart Reader® Worldwide organised Earth Walk 2018, a charity family walk held at Taman Metropolitan Batu, Jalan Ipoh in its aim to promote environmental awareness to the public. The event managed to gather more than 1000 participants to walk along a 2.5km path in the beautiful park.
The morning walk was followed by a record-setting tree-planting session conducted exclusively for the young participants. With total of 560 children in attendance on the day, the event managed to achieve a momentous feat by setting the Malaysia’s Book of Records for the largest number of children participation in a tree-planting event. This historic event aspires to convey a message to the global community that environmental conservation starts from young. The plants, as sponsored by RAP Landscape Sdn Bhd, now form a beautiful garden in the heart of the park, and serves as a reminder on the importance of environmental preservation.
Further, the contribution from the participants managed to raise RM30,000 for the National One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme, an initiative by Datin Sri Dato Dr K H Wang, Group Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide. The programme aims to ensure equal accessibility to quality early childhood education through the provision of scholarships to underprivileged children. Since its inception, the programme has funded more than 500 less fortunate children nationwide for their preschool education. Each child in the programme will receive complete education benefits, including the provision of school fees, uniforms, shoes, schoolbags, books, worksheets, and various learning materials.
The event was also filled with wonderful and exciting activities, from the environmental talk presented by Prof. Dr. Noorhana Yahya, distinguished lecturer and scientist from Universiti Teknologi Petronas who is also a prominent figure in National Professor Council, to the amazing performances from legendary rockstar, Dato’ Nash as well as talented celebrities, Afieq Shazwan, Harris Alif, Deera, and Rania Humaira. The event was also enlivened by a runway walk by the winner of Miss Grand Malaysia 2017, Sanjeda John, Miss Grand Kuala Lumpur 2018, Taanusiya Veerapandian and Miss Grand Melaka 2018, Valentina Monteiro accompanied by the children.
The Smart Reader Kids® Earth Walk 2018 was also graced by the attendance of the Management of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Chief Executive Director, Dato’ Sri Dr. Richard Ong, Executive Directors, Mr. Kevan Ong and Mr. Keefe Ong, Senior Assistant to Director of Children Division from the Malaysian Department of Social Welfare, Mr. Quek Kian Ann, and Mr. Nigel Edwin, representative of RAP Landscape Sdn.
