SPELLING CHALLENGE 2018

The Smart Reader® English programme was developed by experienced educators and proven to be successful in enhancing students’ verbal expression, fluency and articulation of the English language. Incorporating Smart Reader Creative Teaching Methodology®, various unique activities and competition were held to encourage students to practise the lesson and incite confidence to use the language.

On 11th August 2018, Smart Reader® Worldwide organised the Smart Reader Kids® Spelling Challenge 2018 Grand Final at Da-Men mall, Subang Jaya. The event had gathered 35 finalists who managed to pass the preliminary rounds held in different regions in Peninsular Malaysia. During the finale, the spelling master will select a random word, which the participants were required to spell accurately within the given time in front of the panel as well as a large audience of educators, students, parents and the media.

From four-letter words to seven-letter words, the competition got tougher each round. Ammar Imran Saleh Bin Aditya Adri Saleh, 6 from Smart Reader Kids SS19 managed to be the last participant standing as he accomplished to spell each word given to him correctly. He was nominated as the champion of Smart Reader Kids® Spelling Challenge 2018 and received the Datin Sri Dato’ Dr. KH Wang Challenge trophy, cash prize of RM 500, and goodie bag. First runner-up was Muhammad Hariz Adam Bin Hidhir, 6 from Smart Reader Kids Subang 2 while Nur Imaan Binti Muhd Iqbal from Smart Reader Kids Seksyen 9, Bandar Baru Bangi won the second runner-up prize.

The Spelling Master of the day and Training Manager of Smart Reader® Worldwide said that she was in awe by the overwhelming support from parents and franchisees of Smart Reader Kids®. “We had received more than 300 participations in Peninsular Malaysia although this is our first time organising this competition. In this modern era, most children prefer to stay home with internet and gadgets, but it’s great to know that young parents understand the importance of motivating children to participate in educational activities.” she quoted.

Officiating the event was Mr. Keefe Ong, the Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide.  In his speech, he emphasised on how the competition can truly assist in encouraging the usage of English Language from a very young age. “Recently, the Ministry of Education had announced that English will be the main focus of Malaysian Education in the new era. English language had gained significant importance in Malaysia as it is widely and extensively utilised in communication, informative literature and websites, business and finance as well as entertainment. That is one of the main reasons why it is vital for us to build a good foundation in the language as it allows the children to attain higher levels of English proficiency in future” he said. He also thanked Da- Men Mall for supporting the event by sponsoring the venue and goodie bags for the winners and performers.

Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Mr. Keefe Ong, Training, Research & Development Director, Ms. Careemah Choong Lay Kheng and Development, Operations and Marketing Director, Ms. Kalaichelvi Alagendra presented  Ammar Imran Saleh Bin Aditya Adri, 6 from Smart Reader Kids SS19, the champion of Smart Reader Kids Spelling Challenge 2018 with trophy, cash and goodie bag.

Ms. Doriawati Binti Abdullah and Mr. Romlee Bin Mahran, franchisees of Smart Reader Kids® SS19, Subang Jaya were proud of their student’s achievement as he had made intense preparation for the competition by practising with the educators every day.

“In our centre, students are taught to read books and converse in English with their peers in various activities. This helps them to understand the language as well as to expand their vocabulary,” said Ms. Doriawati Binti Abdullah.
