The Smart Reader® English programme was developed by experienced educators and is proven to be successful in enhancing students’ verbal expression, fluency and articulation of the English language. Incorporating Smart Reader Creative Teaching Methodology™, various unique activities and competition were held to encourage students to practise and incite confidence to use the language.
On 25th August 2019, Smart Reader® Worldwide organised the Smart Reader Kids® Spelling Challenge 2019 Grand Final at Sunway Velocity Mall, Kuala Lumpur. The event had gathered 35 finalists who managed to pass the preliminary rounds held in 3 different regions which are southern region, central region, and northern region. Students were given a list of 200 words which were taken from the Smart Reader® English books (Levels 1-6) and the Oxford Dictionary just less than a week before the competition. During the finale, a word is selected randomly by the spelling master and the participants were required to spell accurately within the given time in front of the panel as well as a large audience of educators, students, parents, and the media.
The Spelling Master of the day and Training Manager of Smart Reader® Worldwide, Ms. Jennifer Sagaiyamary A/P Deravasoo said that she was in awe by the overwhelming support from parents and franchisees of Smart Reader Kids®. “We had received more than 286 participations in Peninsular Malaysia. In this modern era, most children prefer to stay home with internet and gadgets, but it’s great to know that young parents understand the importance of motivating children to participate in educational activities,” she quoted.
Officiating the event was Mr Keefe Ong, the Executive Director of Smart Reader® Worldwide. In his speech, he emphasised on how the competition can truly assist in encouraging the usage of English Language from a very young age. “English language had gained significant importance in Malaysia as it is widely and extensively utilised in communication, informative literature and websites, business and finance as well as entertainment. That is one of the main reasons why it is vital for us to build a good foundation in the language as it allows the children to attain higher levels of English proficiency in future,” he said. He thanked Sunway Velocity Mall, Kuala Lumpur for sponsoring the venue as well as other venues which were AEON Bandar Dato’ Onn, Johor, and Pragin Mall, Penang for allowing the children to showcase their talent.
