Throughout the months of September to October 2018, Smart Reader® Worldwide organised the Smart Star Search 2018 competition in different regions in Malaysia. The competition provides a platform for students to perform their talents on stage. On 20th October 2018, a grand finale was held at Wisma Smart Reader® in Kuala Lumpur. This is the second year the competition is held, with 10 finalists each in the solo and group categories respectively. The top 50 finalists, hailing from Penang, Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, portrayed their various remarkable talents, ranging from storytelling, playing music instruments, pantomime, dancing to singing.
The energetic performance by 4 talented Smart Reader Kids® Horizon Hill students won them the champion title.
Lim Shi Yund from Smart Reader Kids® Bandar Perda, Penang was named as the champion the competition for the Solo category, thanks to her energetic and eloquent storytelling performance entitled The Wolf and 7 Little Sheep while a unique pantomime performance by a group of 4 girls namely, Edina Tan, Nurrizq Amani Zaikan, Varshini Murugan and Leong Jia Wen from Smart Reader Kids® Horizon Hills emerged as the champion for the group category.
First runner-up winner for solo category was Hashmita A/P Balakrishnan from Smart Reader Kids® Taman Sri Gombak with her rendition of classical Indian dance while Jasmine Kee Fang Rou from Smart Reader Kids® Taman Molek, Johor was presented the second runner-up prize. Smart Reader Kids® Seberang Jaya’s K-Pop group dance performance secured first runner-up prize for group category while Smart Reader Kids® Bukit Kuda, Klang won second runner-up prize.
All participants were awarded participation certificates as appreciation and acknowledgement of their efforts, as well as sponsored goodies from Aquaria KLCC, Wet World Water Park Shah Alam, Bangi Wonderland Theme Park & Resort, Jkids Entertainment, PTS Publications & Distributors Sdn. Bhd., Melaka Wonderland Sdn. Bhd., Marrybrown Sdn. Bhd., and Smart Reader Kids® merchandise.

Along with the exciting competition, Smart Reader® Worldwide also launched the Inspirational Book Series. The Inspirational Book Series is a programme created by the international award-winning brand to encourage children to hone their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. At the end of the programme, children will be able to pen their own creative stories and in return, receive appreciation for their work through publication of their original tales. On the day, two successful young authors, Jacob Yip Mun Kid from Smart Reader Kids® Taman Hock Lee and Yuneeshra Nair Segaran from Smart Reader Kids® Pandan Indah were rewarded with cash prizes of RM 1,000 each for their accomplishment in publishing their own books entitled “My Dog Patches” and “ A Book” respectively. In 2019, this programme will be incorporated as a part of the Smart Reader Kids Intensive English Programme® in all Smart Reader Kids® centres all over Malaysia, with the mission to inspire children to discover knowledge and express their creativity through this wonderful platform.
